A hotel along the steep cliffs of Dover provides the backdrop for several stories of lost souls and desperate characters in this drama from British filmmaker Carol Morley. Elderly and out-of-sorts Wendy (Marjorie Yates) checks into the Cliff Edge Hotel and immediately retreats to her room to ponder a serious question -- what's the best way to end her own life? Philip (Joe Dempsie) has come to the hotel to meet a woman he's been communicating with on line for months, but when he finally comes face to face with Sophie (Nichola Burley), he soon learns she does not have romance on her mind. Glen (Paul Hilton) is a once-successful musician whose career has gone into a tailspin, and as he struggles to write new songs and make friends with the other guests, he becomes infatuated with Elly (Maxine Peake), who is trying to come to terms with a tragic event in her past.
