Armando Iannucci co-writes and directs this comedy-drama starring Dev Patel. Based on Charles Dickens's novel, the film follows the life of David Copperfield (Patel) as he comes of age in Victorian London. Raised by his single mother, David's idyllic childhood comes to an abrupt end with the arrival of his new stepfather, who sends the young boy to an unforgiving boarding school. Following the death of his mother, David moves in with his aunt Betsey Trotwood (Tilda Swinton) and her husband Mr Dick (Hugh Laurie) before encountering the scheming Uriah Heep (Ben Whishaw).
